Photo Gallery {A Dance to Remember}

This photo gallery captures moments of my career as a ballroom dancer. I've been dancing for nearly five years and have come a very long way since my first recital. Some of these pictures I have taken myself and some my mother (and friends) took for me. I edited all these photos into a contrast of black and white to portray the atmosphere of timeless history. I think the most challenging this about this project was limiting my photo choices. I had hundreds of photos I love and wanted to use, but finally I limited it to just enough to tell my dance story.

{The First Recital}
Mendon Stake Center, Utah - Krista Andersen
Rule of thirds, monochrome, and empty background are the techniques used here. In editing, I brightened the image, turned it black and white, and added contrast.

{First Taste of Competing}
Westlake High, Utah - Denise Brown
Rule of thirds, monochrome, and portrait techniques are used here. In editing, I brightened the image, turned it black and white, added contrast, and lifted some heavy shadows.

{Junior Red Takes First}
Gem State Classic, Rexburg, Idaho - Matt Olsen
Rule of thirds, monochrome, and leading lines are the techniques used here. In editing, I turned it black and white, added contrast, and lifted some highlights.

{Off to Practice}
Mendon, Utah - Morynn Smith
Portrait technique and monochrome, are used here. In editing, I brightened the image, whitened my eyes, turned it black and white, and added contrast.

{Youth Red Team}
Mountain Crest High, Utah - Emily Poppleton
Rule of thirds, monochrome, and leading lines are the techniques used here. In editing, I brightened the image, turned it black and white, lifted some highlights, and added contrast.

{Latin Open Begins}
BYU, Utah - Morynn Smith
Rule of thirds and monochrome are the techniques used here. In editing, I brightened the image, turned it black and white, attempted to lift some shadows, and added contrast.

{Learn Dance, Teach Dance}
Logan, Utah - Morynn Smith
Rule of thirds, monochrome, and interesting background are the techniques used here. In editing, I brightened the image, turned it black and white, and added lots of contrast.

{They Teach Me, Too}
Logan, Utah - Morynn Smith
Rule of thirds, monochrome, and candid are the techniques used here. In editing, I brightened the image and turned it black and white.

{Always in my Heart}
Logan, Utah - Morynn Smith
Portrait, monochrome, and full frame are the techniques used here. In editing, I brightened the image, turned it black and white, added contrast, and whitened the eyes.

{Latin Open Ends}
Gem State Classic, Rexburg, Idaho - Samantha Sorenson
Rule of thirds, monochrome, and leading lines are the techniques used here. In editing, I brightened the image, turned it black and white, and added contrast.

{Goodbye, 2013 Red Team}
Mountain Crest High, Utah - Emily Poppleton
Rule of thirds, monochrome, and movement are the techniques used here. In editing, I brightened the image, turned it black and white, lifted shadows, and added contrast. I tried to get rid of those annoying white lines around my head but everything looked dumb so I left it. (Besides, you didn't even notice it till I pointed it out ;) )

Mountains with Faces

It's landscapes and portrait time!

{More than a Fence}
Taken in Mendon, UT. This is my landscape shot. I'm pretty proud of it.

{Kyler}
This is Kyler. He's my portrait study. He's so photogenic and I love him to death.

{The Meadow}
A combination of portrait and landscape. Taken in Mendon, Utah.

Editing. Merher.

I love using my creative skills on editing probably too much. Especially when it's my own face involved... *cough* Anywho! Enjoy these edits.

Here are the before and after pictures of my surreal edit, "The Key to the Universe" (Taken in my home)

Here are the before and afters of my stunningly enhanced edit, "Me. I'm awesome."

And then finally, the before and afters of my cropping edit, "Dancers". I took the studio photo from depositlyrics.com and the picture of me was taken by Holly Gunther. My skills are.... let's not talk about that.

Invisible Photographer

You guessed it, candid photo project! These are some of my most favorite photos to take. Natural life is the best life.

{Wee Ears}
Taken at the kitten's home. I think this candid is beautiful because you can't get animals to pose for you! This little fella fell asleep in my brother's hands and I quickly snapped a picture.

{Sisters}
I was watching these two sisters help each other at the dance studio and I couldn't resist but capture this moment within my camera lens.

{Naptime}
I took this at the studio as well when I walked in to my dance partner napping with the girl he was tending. Instead of waking him to practice, I let them sleep.

Stop and Go

This is my still life and movement project. Take a look.

{From the Same Plant}
Taken in my kitchen. This is my still life. It's of an apple and a pencil, who both were birthed from a tree.

{Watering Can}
Taken in my backyard. This was a movement shot.

{Dance Class}
Taken at the Enlight Ballroom Studio. This is my action shot of my pre-teen team dancing waltz with each other.

Lighting and Co.

This project was on lighting. I took an example of a good use of light and a bad one. Then I took a picture of the same haunted house at different times of the day to see how the sun affects my photos. The results were quite interesting.

Experiment One: Good Lighting (Titled "The First Rays of Spring") Taken in my backyard.

Experiment Two: Bad Lighting (Titled "Sitting Ducks") Taken on an old Mendon Road.

Experiment Three: Three Times of Day (Titled "Haunted Trio") Taken at the haunted house across the street.

The Best Pictures Ever

{Troll in the Lego Dungeon}
My brother was cleaning up his legos and he through the troll in and I said, "Troll in the dungeon!" So I decided to take a picture of it. Excellent faming, eh? :)

{Kitty's View}
I was playing with my cat and decided to take a picture of her point of view on the neighborhood. I love the colors and the background.

{Silver Lining}
I love the colors in this one. It's almost monochrome but there is the blue sky and the light of the clouds. There really are silver linings!
